New update!
Hello everyone!
I want to start by saying thank you for all the amazing feedback that I have been given from the game jam (both from itch and through other means). It has really informed me as to what went well (which we all love to hear!) and what could be improved (which we ALSO love to hear!).
And as such, I have acted upon all the feedback given. Namely I have fixed all the bugs and issues mentioned (namely improving scaling on the game over screen whilst also altering the camera so that you can see part of the tile that you are currently standing on) and I have also added on some new features as well.
New additions include feedback for when the player or the enemy do damage to eachother: There is now audiovisual feedback for when the enemy gets hit! So now the player will know when they have hit the enemy, and when they as well have been hit! Another visual aid is the presence of a health bar above each and every enemy in the game to let the player know just how many times they need to hit the enemy and how much damage they need to deal (let us pray that the dice gods are feeling very generous!).
Another thing I added was having skill checks be unavailable for attempting if the player has failed them. This gives more meaning towards skills and makes it all that much more important to get a successful roll to open that chest or door or analyze that magical artifact.
Additionally, the character creation has been reworked to look less stale and more like a character sheet stored within a book. This look has also been replicated into the level-up screen, which has also been added to make leveling up in the game actually matter. You can now allocate skill points towards skills to improve your odds at skill checks or dealing more damage to enemy goblins. You can also access the character sheet at any time in gameplay.
Another feature I added was a rudimentary inventory system which allows you to carry items, like keys which can be used to unlock various doors in the dungeons (guess what I've added). This is also a good stepping stone I can use to build up the inventory system at a later date and give you new weapons and armor and consumables to use in the dungeons (the days of relying on chickens will come to an end!).
I look forward to receiving more feedback from this new update and I especially look forward to starting development on the next version of the game!
Until next time, dungeon delvers!
